MICR stands for Magnetic Ink Character Recognition — the technology that lets banks automatically scan and process the number line at the bottom of every cheque (your account number, sort code, and cheque number).
UAE Central Bank regulations require all cheques to have a valid MICR line. This line must be printed with magnetic iron-oxide ink or toner — standard printer ink cannot be read by bank scanners.

Yes. All UAE bank cheques must have a valid MICR line at the bottom (account number, sort code, cheque number) printed with magnetic ink. Cheques without proper MICR are rejected. Most UAE businesses use pre-printed cheque books from their bank, which already have the MICR line — you only need to print the variable data (payee, amount, date).
For printing on pre-printed cheque books (from your bank) — yes. The bank cheque book already has the MICR line, you just print the payee, amount, and date with a standard laser printer. For blank cheque stationery where you print everything including the MICR line — you need a MICR-specific printer/toner.
