Use your printer's manual feed or rear straight-paper path — this prevents the cheque from bending around the drum. Most HP and Canon inkjets have a rear-feed slot. Feed landscape (long edge first).

Write the date in DD/MM/YYYY format — the standard for UAE banks. For post-dated cheques (PDCs), write the future date on which the cheque should be presented. A cheque is valid for 6 months from the date written in UAE.
Write the full legal name of the person or company receiving the cheque — exactly as it appears on their Emirates ID, trade licence, or company registration. Avoid nicknames or abbreviations. Draw a line after the name to prevent additions.
Write the numeric amount clearly in the box — e.g. 5,000.00. Always include the decimal point and two digits after it, even for whole amounts. Start as close to the left edge of the box as possible to prevent additions before the figure.
This is the legally binding amount. Write it in full — e.g. Five Thousand Dirhams Only. If the words and figures conflict, UAE banks treat the words as correct. Always end with "Only". Draw a line after the words to fill any blank space.

Write the purpose — e.g. "Rent — January 2027" or "Invoice #1042". Not legally required but very useful for your records and the recipient's accounts department.

⚠️ Bounced Cheque = Criminal Offence
Issuing a cheque that bounces due to insufficient funds is a criminal offence under UAE law (Federal Decree-Law No. 14 of 2020). This can result in travel bans, fines, and imprisonment. Always confirm your balance before issuing a cheque.
📅 Validity: 6 Months
A UAE cheque is valid for 6 months (180 days) from the date written on it. After this period, the bank will not honour it. For PDC cheques, ensure the date is clearly legible and correct.
✏️ No Corrections Allowed
Banks in UAE generally reject cheques with overwriting or corrections — even if initialled. If you make a mistake, void the cheque and write a new one. This is why printing with software is safer than hand-writing.
🔒 "Account Payee Only" Crossing
To prevent fraud, draw two parallel lines across the top-left of the cheque with the words "Account Payee Only" between them. This restricts the cheque to direct bank deposit only — it cannot be cashed over the counter.
