Where HSBC UAE stands in the cheque library

There is no published HSBC UAE layout. The UAE bank cheque library holds measurements taken from real cheque leaves that customers scanned and sent in, and no HSBC UAE leaf has come through yet.

We will not publish a layout we have not measured, because a guessed layout wastes your cheque leaf and makes you doubt the next print. Scan one blank HSBC leaf flat at full size, send it through a ticket, and we measure it and publish it for everyone on the next layout version.

Setting up your HSBC leaf in the layout editor

The software prints to a bank you add yourself. You set the cheque width and height, then drag the four fields — date, payee, amount in words and amount in figures — onto the positions printed on your own leaf and save it under its own name. It prints like any other saved bank afterwards, and you only do it once.

Print the first attempt on a photocopy of the cheque rather than the cheque. Hold the photocopy against a real leaf up to a window and any field that needs nudging shows up straight away, before it costs you a leaf.

What the software prints on an HSBC cheque

• Payee name — on the “Pay” line, at the position you set
• Amount in figures — in the amount box, for example AED 5,000.00
• Amount in words — generated from the figure you type, so nobody writes it out by hand
• Date — in DD/MM/YYYY in the date field
• A/C Payee Only — crossing printed if you select it

Nothing is printed over the parts the bank already put on the leaf. The logo, the MICR line, the account number and the branch details are pre-printed stationery and the software prints around them.

Post-dated cheques are how most UAE rent and supplier agreements are settled, and writing a dozen of them by hand is where dates get transposed. Once your HSBC layout is saved you enter the amount and the start date once, choose monthly, quarterly or a custom interval, and the batch prints with sequential dates.

The software keeps a log of what it issued and flags a cheque before it is due for presentation, so a batch you printed four months ago does not catch you out.
